La Paulée de New York Brings in Hundreds of Customers

La Paulée is an annual wine tasting that is held at different locations around the country. It is conducted in honor of La Paulée de Meursault and is an opportunity for guests and growers to meet under one roof. Here, guests have the privilege of tasting a variety of red and white wines, and fresh releases to vintage brews, from some of the most coveted Burgundy domains.

Food for the event is also top notch, with world renowned names like Chef Daniel Humm, Chef Ryan Hardy, Chef César Ramirez and Chef Daniel Boulud serving up the delectable accompaniments.

This past Saturday, the 9th of March, saw the much-anticipated La Paulée de New York bringing in hundreds of wine-lovers and over 35 Burgundy domaines together. Though the event itself lasted only three hours, it was a grand success.

Every domaine presented four wines, almost all of which were 2010s and sold out in the blink of an eye! Dauvissar Chablis (2010) from the petit Chablis, all the way to the Preuses with their single vineyard, there was a seemingly endless flow of the best wines on display for tasting. There were the soft notes of white wines from Domaine Leflaive, Comtes Lafon and Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. These were especially welcome in the warm spring sun of New York City.

In their red selection there was a variety of savory foods served to perfectly complement the wine. The highlights of the selection were spicy hints of Chandon de Brialles, Clos des Chenes, Chateau des Duc and many more.

To taste the wines, the room overflowed with collectors, sommeliers, restaurateurs and famous wine bloggers from around the country. Everyone filled the room with laughter and conversation which is, after all, the best part about a glass of wine. From the complex Chevillion to the unforgettable Mugneret-Gibourg, from the poise of the Roumier to the sophistication of the Fourrier, each domiane had something unique to offer, and every table was an experience well worth remembering.

Most agreed that the star of the show was the Clos de la Roche, which bloggers and critics alike deemed the clear standout of the event.

The next La Paulée event is scheduled to be held in San Francisco in 2014, but is returning to New York the year after that. So if you’re a wine aficionado, or just want to taste some of the best from across the board, start marking your calendar.
